Description

Obatoclax also known as GX15-070, is a synthetic derivative of bacterial prodiginines and acts as small molecule antagonist against anti-apoptotic Bcl2 (B-cell lymphoma 2) family members. It's considered a pro-apoptotic BH3 death domain mimetic. It functions as a competitive inhibitor by binding to the hydrophobic pocket of anti-apoptotic BCL2 family members such as BCL-2, BCL-XL, BCL-W, and MCL-1, thereby causing BAX/BAK activation to induce apoptosis. However, there’s no evidence to show direct interaction of Obatoclax with the BH3 domain in biochemical settings.
