Description

Recombinant Fibroblast Growth Factor 21 is a disulfide-linked monomer protein consisting of 182 amino acid residues, and migrates as an approximately 20 kDa protein under non-reducing and reducing conditions in SDS-PAGE. Optimized DNA sequence encoding Human Fibroblast Growth Factor-21 mature chain was expressed in E. coli.

Background
FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities and are involved in a variety of biological processes including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. FGF-21 stimulates glucose uptake in differentiated adipocytes via the induction of glucose transporter SLC2A1/GLUT1 expression (but not SLC2A4/GLUT4 expression). Activity requires the presence of KLB.
