Background
Eotaxin belongs to the platelet factor-4 family of chemokines. The factor is being referred to also as Eotaxin-2 and has been renamed CCL24. Both eotaxin-2/CCL24 and eotaxin-3/CCL26 are CC chemokines and functional ligands for CC chemokine receptor 3 (CCR3), which is preferentially expressed on eosinophils. Only 34% of the amino acids in eotaxin-2/CCL24 and eotaxin-3/CCL26 are identical, but these two chemokines have a common characteristic feature in terms of chemotaxis for eosinophils via the CCR3.
