Background

CDK20 is a member of the cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) family, which plays crucial roles in regulating cell cycle progression and cell division. The exact function of CDK20 is not well established. In humans, CDK20 activates CDK2 (cyclin-dependent kinase 2). CDK20 also seems to bind KEAP1 (Kelch-like ECHD-associated protein 1), which in turn will target NRF2 (nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor) for degradation. The development of radio chemoresistance during cancer treatment by radiotherapy is one of the main causes of cancer recurrence. Absence of CDK20 in a lung cancer model resulted in decreased cell proliferation and increased sensitivity to radio chemotherapy. CDK20 is thus a promising therapeutic target in cancer therapy.
