Background

SPHK1 is a lipid enzyme that catalyzes the phosphorylation of sphingosine to form sphingosine 1-phosphate (SPP). It has been implicated in tumor progression through cell proliferation and motility. High levels of SPHK1 have been associated with increased mortality in various forms of human cancer.
