Background

Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor 2 (FGFR2) belongs to a family of transmembrane receptors with tyrosine kinase activity playing a key role in cell growth, differentiation, and tissue repair. Receptor activation by FGF ligands triggers signaling pathways that ultimately regulate cell proliferation and differentiation. FGFR2 is essential for embryonic development, particularly in the formation of the skeletal system and the development of the central nervous system. It also plays a significant role in wound healing, tissue regeneration, and tissue maintenance in adults. Dysfunction of FGFR2 is associated with a range of disorders, including craniosynostosis and certain types of cancer, therefore, FGFR2 is a candidate therapeutic target in conditions where its function is dysregulated.
