BCKDK (Branched chain ketoacid dehydrogenase kinase) is a mitochondrial kinase found at high levels in skeletal muscle. BCKDK phosphorylates and inactivates BCKD, leading to an increase in branched amino acids. Abnormal activity of this enzyme leads to diseases such as maple syrup urine disease and cachexia.
