Background

Nucleosomes are portions of DNA that are wrapped around histone proteins in the form of a histone octamer. The histone octamer consists of two copies of H2A, H2B, H3 and H4. Nucleosomes correspond to subunits of chromatin and allow the DNA to be compacted enough to fit into the cell’s nucleus. The presence of nucleosomes at specific points of the genome determines the ability of regulatory proteins to access DNA.
