Background
Renin, or angiotensinogenase, is an aspartic protease that is synthesized by the kidneys, and it is part of the RAAS (renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system). Renin catalyzes the hydrolysis of angiotensinogen to angiotensin I, which is converted to angiotensin II in the lungs by ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme), a highly potent vasoconstrictor. Renin is secreted in response to changes in arterial blood pressure, and to sodium decreases in the distal tubules in response to activity of the sympathetic nervous system. Renin inhibitors have been used therapeutically in the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure).
Assay was done according to the Renin Assay Kit (BPS Bioscience #80211) with Renin titrated from at various amounts.
Instructions for Use
Thaw on ice and gently mix prior to use. DO NOT VORTEX. Perform a quick spin before opening. Aliquot into small volumes and flash freeze for long term storage. Avoid multiple freeze/thaw cycles.
Applications
Useful for the study of enzyme kinetics, screening inhibitors, and selectivity profiling.
