Metabolic Enzymes

Metabolic enzymes carry out a variety of cellular functions necessary for survival and homeostasis, including proteolysis and digestion, cellular respiration, energy storage, transcription, and response to the environment. These life-sustaining pathways are vital for growth and maintenance of cellular integrity. Metabolic enzymes encompass a wide range of different protein classes, including carboxylases, dehydrogenases, lipoxygenases, oxidoreductases, kinases, lyases, transferases, and more.

Disregulation of metabolic pathways has been linked to diabetes, obesity, hypertension, osteoporosis, hormonal disorders, cancer, and many other diseases. Given the importance of these essential pathways to cellular integrity and survival, it is not surprising that disregulation of delicate metabolic pathways has been linked to a number of human diseases. Targeting metabolic enzymes is of high interest in drug development programs for metabolic diseases such as diabetes, obesity and cancer.

BPS’s portfolio of metabolic enzymes currently includes over 50 different enzymes and is continuously expanding.  Also, learn more about the Screening and Profiling Services for Metabolic Enzymes.
